Abstract

966,249. Control of material level in hoppers. I. RUB. March 5, 1963 [March 6, 1962; July 6, 1962], Nos. 8607/62 and 25977/62. Heading B8S. The feed of material to hopper 10 from a conveyer is controlled intermittently by means of two flaps 11 and 12 pivoted within the hopper. Flap 12 is counterbalanced at 16 and employs an engaging lever 14a. Flap 11 is counterbalanced at 15 and employs engaging lever 13a. Control of the conveyer is effected by mercury switch 21 which is disposed outside the hopper on platform 17 pivoted at 18 and influenced at 19. Operation.-When the conveyer operates to feed material into hopper 10 so that the level of material bears upon flap 11, the latter is pressed downwards so that lever 13a engages platform 17a to tip the latter and operate switch 21 to shut off the conveyer. The level of material then falls as the material is discharged from the outlet of the conveyer. The level of the material falls till it ceases to weight upon flap 12. At this stage the flap 12 is operated by counterweight 16 to swing anticlockwise so that its lever 14a engages platform 17 to swing the latter upwards and clockwise to the position shown. Switch 21 is then operated to recommence the feed of the conveyer. Spring 19 operates to give a sharp up or down movement of platform 15.
