965,651. Transducer casings; thermometers. MAX-PLANCK-INSTITUT FUR EISENFORSCHUNG, and PHOENIX-RHEINROHR A. G. VEREINIGTE HUTTEN-UND ROHRENWERKE. April 10, 1963 [May 30, 1962], No. 14373/63. Headings G1D and G1N. Apparatus for measuring the temperature of iron or steel melts comprises a thermocouple in a ceramic tube, held in the wall of the melt vessel by a ceramic plug of pasty consistency which prevents the melt from escaping through the hole in the wall. As shown (Fig. 2), the lining 6 of the converter vessel has a hollow guide tube 7 of highly burned magnesite, partly covered with a steel tube 8, into which is pushed the ceramic tube 1 by an iron tube 4. The outer surface of tube 1 is covered with a thin layer of a highly ceramic sealant 3 comprising a mixture of refractory material and an aqueous solution of waterglass, phosphoric acid or boric acid, to which small quantities of carbon-containing substances may be added to facilitate removal of the ceramic tube 1. The apparatus is particularly useful in converters operated solely with oxygen. Specification 924,408 is referred to.
