Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide carburization preventing characteristic besides heat retaining characteristic and oxidation preventing characteristic of molten steel, in the production of a low carbon steel, by forming a molten shielding layer of low carbon between the molten steel heat insulating agent and molten steel surface in a ladle or tundish. CONSTITUTION:The molten low carbon steel 2 in a ladle 1 is poured from a lower nozzle 3 into a tundish 5, and the molten steel 6 therein is poured from an immersion nozzle 10 into a mold 11 to become an ingot 12. Here, the molten steel 6 is heat-insulated by a tundish cover 4, but since this is insufficient, a molten low carbon slag layer 9 is formed on the surface of the molten steel 6 by powder for oxidation prevension of molten steel (for example, 50% CaO, 45% SiO2, 3% Al2O3, 1% MgO, 0.5% C, and 0.5% others, m.p. 1,460 deg.C). A layer of a heat insulating material of low bulk density (for example, 40% SiO2, 15% Al2O3, 20% MgO, 5% Fe2O3, 10% H2O, and others 10% vermiculite) is formed thereon.
