Abstract
51-Inosinic acid is obtained by admixing a solution containing inosine and a phosphate donor comprising one or more aromatic phosphates and/or one or more nucleotides other than 51-inosinic acid with an enzyme source comprising or obtained from cells of a species of microorganism belonging to the genus Pseudomonas, allowing biochemical phosphorylation of the inosine to take place while maintaining the pH from 3.5 to 7.0, and thereafter recovering the accumulated 51-inosinic acid, e.g. by an ionexchange method as the sodium salt. Suitable aromatic phosphates include nitrophenyl phosphates, phenyl phosphate and benzyl phosphate and their salts. Copper and/or zinc ions are preferably present. When the inosine is contaminated with other nucleosides such as adenosine and guanosine, the corresponding 51-nucleotides are produced as by-products.
