965,077. Electric indicating systems, measuring short time intervals. MILITARY TRAINING DEVICE CO.A. B. Aug. 29,1961 [Aug. 29, 1960], No. 29694/60. Headings G1N and G1U. Apparatus for measuring the muzzle velocity of projectiles comprises two spaced coils 2, a projectile 4 passing through the coils generating a sinusoidal input pulse to the respective one of amplifiers 12, 13 the outputs of which are fed to triggering devices 16,17, e.g. diodes, gas-filled valves or semiconductors to provide output trigger pulses to a time measuring device 15 the reading on which indicates the time interval between the trigger pulses and therefore the velocity of the projectile. The triggering devices are arranged to operate at a positive amplitude value of input pulse and, in order to ensure that the triggering levels of the devices are equal, a checking generator 19 is included in the apparatus which feeds identical sinusoidal calibrating pulse signals (separated by a known time delay) to amplifiers 12,13 the amplitude values at which the trigger devices 16,17 operate being adjusted manually at 18 until the reading on time measuring device 15 corresponds to the known time delay.
