Abstract

The folding device of the parent Specification is modified in that the photo-electric cell and the light source of each switching unit are arranged in a single housing beneath the folding table whilst reflecting means e.g. mirrors are arranged above the table. Light rays from the source pass through openings in the table and are reflected back from the mirror means to the cell. Interruption of the light rays by articles moving along the folding table cause operation of the folding means. By putting each light source and the corresponding cell in the same housing independent adjustment is avoided. Means are provided whereby articles overlapping two or more folding lanes interrupt light rays of a preselector switching unit so as to link up folding means in adjacent lanes. In this way the device may be used to fold for example these narrow width articles, one narrow and one wide or one very wide article.
