Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of the formula: <FORM:0963820/C1/1> (wherein R2, R3 and R4 are hydrogen atoms or alkyl radicals of at most 5 carbon atoms, at least one of R2 and R3 being hydrogen, and R1 is hydrogen) and salts thereof. They may be prepared by acylation of the precursor phenylpiperidylalkylanilines, these in turn being prepared by reduction of the corresponding amides. These may be prepared by condensing 4-phenylpiperidine with an a -halo-acyl halide to give a 4-phenylpiperidyl a -haloalkyl ketone and then reacting this with aniline, to give an amide reducible to an amine wherein R2 is hydrogen, or by condensing 4-phenylpiperidine with an a -haloalkylanilide to give an amide reducible to an amine wherein R3 is hydrogen. Examples are given.
