Abstract
963,076. Seaming non-metallic sheet material. IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. April 18, 1963 [April 26, 1962], No. 15972/62. Heading B5K. [Also in Division B8] A machine for sealing the unclosed ends of a bag in which closely spaced elements bring the ends together and sealing elements apply heat and pressure, is provided with means for separating the unclosed ends before they are sealed and for removing dust from the surfaces that are to be seamed together. In one embodiment the walls at the mouth are separated by vacuum nozzles 7 connected to a suction tube 8. A rotatable brush 9 enters the separated walls and cleans the surfaces before they pass between sealing members 6 which apply pressure and heat to fuse the ends together. In a further embodiment (not shown), the ends may be separated by gas such as air passing in the direction of bag movement through a convergent-divergent channel and the dust removed by a vacuum nozzle.
