Abstract

963,017. Machine tool details. RHEINSTAHL HUTTENWERKE A.G. Jan. 12, 1961 [Jan. 13, 1960], No. 1347/61. Addition to 920,204. Headings B3K and B3T. [Also in Division B5] In a modification of the machine for preparing a threaded pipe 1 of the parent Specification a selector is provided to cater for different thread diameters and different saw blade diameters. Tool spindle 35 carrying a thread cutter 37, and a circular saw 36 is moved transversely and longitudinally relative to the pipe by slides 39, 40. The selector comprises a graduated stepped drum 204 rotatable in a crosshead 209 and three screws 104, one of which engages one of the steps 207 according to the screw thread diameter to be cut. Crosshead 209 is urged to the right, Fig. 1, by a spring 106 and is adjustable by a screwed spindle 210. A slide 213 integral with the crosshead has pins 214, 215, which engage cams 227, 228, carried on a shaft 226 which also carries helical end cams 223, 224. In operation, with the mechanism as in Fig. 1, ram 98 is moved to the left, thus moving slide 213 and slide 39 to the left to allow saw 36 to part off the pipe. Saw 36 and ram 98 return to the positions of Fig. 1 and lever 131 is moved to the chain line position for screwing. Cam 227 is rotated so that face 232 contacts ram 98, and face 233 engages pin 214, and cam 228 is moved away from pin 215. Slide 39 is moved by crosshead 209 to the left so that cutter 37 just contacts pipe 1, and as shaft 226 is rotated cams 223, 224 approach each other thus retracting finger 229, and allows wedge surface 138 to contact ram 136. The machine is now actuated and ram 98 moves cutter 37 to the required thread depth, roller 135 and ram 136 are lifted and move slide 40 a distance S corresponding to the pitch of the thread. If a pipe of smaller diameter is to be cut, drum 204 is rotated to allow a screw 104 to engage a different step 207. An adjusting screw 208 is provided to cater for re-grinding of saw 36.
