Abstract

963,001. Rotary-scythe mowers. ROVER MOWERS PTY Ltd. May 22, 1963 [May 23, 1962], No. 20379/63. Heading A1F. In a rotary-scythe mower having a motordriven vertical shaft 46 carrying the knifeassembly 47 and pairs of transverselyaligned ground-wheels 11, 12, a transverse driving shaft 39, driven by belt 44 from the vertical shaft 46, is mounted adjacent to one pair of wheels 12 and is provided with wheel-engaging rollers 40, the rollers and transverse shaft being movable between operative and inoperative positions by toggle-mechanism 31 mounted on the handles 20, the mechanism being self-sustaining in both positions. The groundwheels are mounted on pivoted bell-cranks (not shown) and are interconnected for vertical adjustment, in unison, by a lever 17 and quadrant 18. The shaft 39 is journalled in a U-shaped frame 24 pivoted to the mower-body 10, the frame being urged downwardly about its pivots 27 by a tension spring 42. The belt 44 has its lower run 50 horizontal and longitudinal, but its upper run 49 is steeply angled by a jockeypulley 54 on a spring-urged pivoted arm 53. The toggle-mechanism comprises an arcuate lever 36 pivoted at one end 34 to a rod 30 connected to the frame 24, at an intermediate point 32, to a lug carried by the cross-bar 23.
