961,095. Special hulls; outboard motors. J. G. A. WAY-HOPE. May 29, 1963 [July 16, 1962], No. 27238/62. Headings B7A and B7V. A boat having an outboard motor 16 has arranged forwardly of stern 12 and within hull 11, a trunk 13 into which the motor drive extends, characterized in that a portion 20 of the hull is inclined upwardly to the front wall 21 of the trunk, whilst a tunnel 23 is provided with its roof 24 inclined downwardly from the rear wall of the trunk. As shown, roof 24 has hinged to it a flap 28 which is controlled by a rod 31 movable through a clamping device 32. Movement of the flap 28 alters the position of the effective roof of the tunnel 23. This arrangement is said to disperse exhaust fumes which may otherwise cause malfunctioning of the engine.
