Abstract

961,042. Cathode-ray tubes. A. B. DICK CO. March 3, 1961 [March 14, 1960], No. 7891/61. Heading H1D. In an electrostatic printing tube in which a plurality of wires 34, Fig. 1, extending through the dielectric face plate 32 are successively caused to discharge through a dielectric tape 36, the scanning electron beam is operated to produce an excess of secondary electron emission from the inner ends of the wires, i.e. the beam voltage is above the first cross-over point for the material of the wires, and the modulating signal is applied to a secondary electron collector electrode 40 arranged near the inner ends of the wires and spaced both from them and from the side walls of the tube. The collector electrode may have the form shown at 46 in Fig. 2, or at 44 in Fig. 3, or may be in the form of a grid.
