Abstract

959,940. Converters. PINTSCH BAMAG A.G. Feb. 14, 1963 [July 21, 1962], No. 6103/63. Heading F4B. A converter comprises a trunnion ring surrounding and spaced from the shell and carrying retractable dowels in one plane, pointing towards the shell and entering into loose fitting sockets on the shell to allow for radial expansion. The trunnion ring 2 is spaced around the converter shell 1, the shell and ring being interconnected by the dowels 5. The dowels engage sockets 7 welded to the shell and are screwed to the outer wall of the trunnion ring through their flanges 9. Rectangular section, steel reinforcing rings 11 are provided around the shell together with roof like screen plates 12 and 13, which prevent the trunnion ring from becoming dirty. Cooling air may flow naturally around the converter shell or one or both trunnion rings may be bored and air blown through the resultant hole or holes. The sockets may be fabricated from two rings of metal welded together the radially outer dowel supporting ring having a smaller bearing hole radius than the radius of the hole of the inner, shell mounted ring.
