Abstract
1,218,441. Mounting converters. DEMAG A.G. 9 Jan., 1968 [28 June, 1967], No. 1293/68. Heading F4B. A converter vessel is supported within a mounting rung 4 by means of peripherally spaced resiliently extensible bolts 20 which connect upstanding portions 30 of the mounting ring to brackets 3, 31 welded to the jacket 2 of the vessel. The bolts 20 pass through slotted apertures 19 elongated radially of the vessel in both the brackets 3, 3<SP>1</SP> and the portions 30 and are provided with washers 22, 23 having cooperating part spherical seating surfaces, which allow the bolts 20 to pivot in the apertures 19 and so compensate for differential radial expansion of the vessel and the ring. Differential axial expansions of the vessel and the ring are taken up by elongation of the bolts. The bolts may be slightly inclined to the longitudinal axis of the vessel to improve the rigidity of the structure. The ring 4 may comprise a trunnion ring, or in the case of a Kaldo converter, form the lower of two track rings interconnected by a spacer ring 5 secured to the track rings by further resiliently extensible bolts 14, the brackets 3, 3<SP>1</SP> on the vessel projecting into recesses 12 in the spacer ring 5. Bracing members 29 extend between the upstanding portions 30 of the mounting ring 4 and flanges 16 welded to the vessel jacket 2. Further bracing members (26, Fig. 6, not shown) extend between the portions 30 and the spacer ring 5. These bracing members help prevent bending stresses being applied to the resiliently extensible bolts 20. In modifications (not shown) a bolt head or threaded nut having a part-spherical seating surface may replace one of the washers, and the bolts may be provided in radially or circumferentially disposed groups around the vessel periphery. Suspension lugs (10, Fig. 1, not shown) may be attached to the vessel jacket or to its upper track ring.
