958,902. Centrifugal switches; electric motors. B.S.R. Ltd. Oct. 8,1962 [Oct. 13, 1961], No. 36748/61. Headings H2A and H2B. [Also in Division G3] A D.C. electric motor has a speed-controlling governor with a centrifugally-operable switch comprising an insulated non-rotatable slip ring 18, Figs. 2, 3, round the spindle 1 of the motor and a plate 22 mounted on the spindle, carrying a resilient metal strip 30, 31, with a brush contact 33 which engages the slip ring 18. The strip 30 carries a counter-weight 34 which tends to move away from the spindle as the speed of rotation of the plate 22 increases, thus breaking contact between the slip ring 18 and brush contact 33 and interrupting a current supply circuit extending through the spindle 1 to at least part of the motor winding. The motor comprises a main slip ring 7, Fig. 1, on and in conductive engagement with the spindle 1, a brush contact 8 which is in engagement with the slip ring 7 and a brush contact 5 of a commutator assembly 4 and to which coils 2 and 3 of a winding are connected. The metal strip 30 may be adjusted by a screw 35 attached to the strip and plate 27. The counterweight may be provided by the mass of the strip 30.
