Abstract

A terephthalic acid salt is produced by continuously introducing an alkali or thallium benzenecarboxylate feed into a moving bed containing a mixture of a salt of terephthalic acid, unreacted salt and a catalyst and blowing a hot inert gas through the mixture, the feed being of grain sizes 0.1-0.5 mm. and being at a temperature below the melting point of the salt and said mixture being heated by the hot inert gas to a temperature above the melting point of the salt and being maintained with a content of 5-30% unreacted salt.
