April 8, 1963 [April 11, 1962; Sept. 19, 1962], Nos. 14049/62 and 35691/62, Heading D1N Fibres in a conveying airstream are separated from the stream by a screen, a portion of the airstream being diverted to form an eddy current tending to remove fibres from the screen so that they are then free to fall by gravity into a receptacle. Where the conveying system is arranged to supply several machines, displaceable screens, as 11A in Fig. 9, may be mounted so as to ensure supplies of fibres to each machine. In such arrangements deflector members 19 may be moved simultaneously with the screens to assist in conducting the fibres. Fibres may fall from a screen on to inclined surfaces 101, 102 and associated rollers 104, Fig. 8. Instead of two rollers a single exit roller may be employed in association with a series of spring-loaded pedals. Another embodiment has a chamber with a closed bottom for emptying by hand. The air stream may pass through a plane obliquely-located screen, through a plane horizontally-located screen or through a curved screen with inlets to the chamber either above or below the screen. The reception chamber may be a sump located alongside an upwardly directed inlet pipe.
