Abstract

957,721. Arcing-preventing. H. E. CLAESSON, and K. E. JARNBRINK. July 4, 1960 [July 3, 1959], No. 23312/60. Heading H2B. In a D.C. circuit having contacts K1, K2 controlling the operation of an inductive load such as a relay R1 over a line L which may be of considerable length, an inductance Z 1 is connected in series with the line L and load R1 to prevent the discharge current caused by the capacitance (indicated at C1 and C2) of the line resulting in arcing at the contacts when they are closed. To prevent or reduce arcing when the contacts are opened, a rectifier L1 in parallel with a resistor r2 and in series with a capacitor C5 is connected across the inductance Z1, line L and load R1. The rectifier L1, capacitor C5, resistor r2 and the inductance Z1 may be assembled in a self-contained unit which may be attached to the contact K1, Fig. 3 (not shown).
