Abstract
957,579. Jacketed pressure vessels. TAYLOR REID & CO. Ltd. April 26, 1963 [May 17, 1962], No. 14805/62. Heading F4S. In a jacketed pressure vessel B, the jacket is formed from a sheet or plate of material A bent to surround the outer surface of the shell, corrugations being formed in the jacket, either before or after bending, to provide one or more continuous helical passages, a around the shell through which a liquid or a gas or vapour can be passed from an inlet C to an outlet D to heat or cool the contents of the vessel B, the jacket being welded to the shell at the bottom of the troughs a<SP>3</SP> of the corrugations. The shell may be of plain cylindrical form (Fig. 2, not shown) or, as shown, it may be corrugated similar to the jacket so that the continuous helical passage is formed by the coincidences of the corrugations of the jacket and shell. The corrugations of the jacket may be strengthened by welding a strip F, within the corrugation (Fig. 7, not shown). Methods of welding the jacket to the shell are described. A flange B<SP>1</SP>, to which the cover or lid of the vessel is secured may be welded to a series of supports or to a ring welded to the top of the outer surface of the shell.
