Abstract
957,528. Pumping systems. O. ECKERLE. Dec. 5, 1960 [Dec. 4, 1959; July 12, 1960], No. 41849/60. Heading F1F. A system for pumping oil from a reservoir 16 to an outlet 14 comprises a glandless pump 11 submerged in a vessel, the pump being connected to the outlet 14 via a check valve 13. Also connected to the outlet is an air relief valve 10 of the perforated diaphragm type the discharge pipe 18 from which is directed into the vessel. When the outlet contains more than a minimum proportion of air the valve 10 is opened to vent the air, any escaping oil entering the vessel 12 to maintain the level therein. The valve 10 closes when the proportion of air in the outlet decreases whereupon the check valve 13 opens. The oil in the vessel 12 lubricates the pump. An overflow 15 connects the vessel to the reservoir.
