Abstract

956,084. Automatic lathes. ZAVODY PRESNEHO STROJIRENSTVI GOTTWALDOV NARODNI PODNIK. April 18, 1962 [April 20, 1961], No. 14985/62. Heading B3T. In an automatic lathe, an arrangement for increasing the speed of the control cam-shaft during non-productive periods in the work cycle comprises a two-part, one-way clutch, attached to the worm shaft of a worm and wheel drive 8 and 25 of the camshaft, with an outer part 12 which is belt driven from a gear-box 2 and is supported by bearings 17 on a hollow shaft extension 18 of a part 19 of a safety clutch, and an inner part 16 slidably connected with the part 19 by means of a key 20. Rollers 21 located between the inner and outer parts are wedged, in recesses in the inner part during rotation in one direction, under the pressure of a spring 23. The inner part is rigidly attached to a pulley 14 and is beltdriven from an electric motor 3. In operation, the two parts of the one-way clutch rotate in the same direction in unison, driven from the gear-box 2 at a normal machine-operating speed, the electric motor idling under this drive. During the non-productive work period the electric motor 3 may be automatically started by a control drum on which dogs 30 and 31 operate switches 32, and 33 respectively so that with a selected drive ratio between the motor and inner clutch member, the inner part may overdrive the normal drive and so speed up the shaft. Manual operation of the drive may be effected by rotation of the shaft 5 by handle 4, the shaft firstly being axially displaced to disengage the one way clutch and engage the parts 6 and 7 of a claw clutch.
