Abstract
<PICT:0954214/C3/1> A process for the vacuum degasification of metals, particularly steel, is characterized by introducing a carrier gas below one of two tubes, connecting the vacuum chamber to the melt, in order to assist the circulation of the melt. In Fig. 1 the carrier gas is introduced into the body of the melt by a lance 20 whose opening 21 can be at a variable depth below the entrance tube 7, which may be widened into a funnel shape at its lower end, Fig. 2 (not shown), and remote from the exit tube 12. The use of this method also allows the use of an entry tube which is longer than the barometric height of the metal since the gas bubbles reduce the density of the melt, Fig. 3 (not shown).
