Abstract

The invention comprises steroids of the general formula: <FORM:0954146/C2/1> wherein R represents an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl group, and R1 represents hydrogen or an alkyl group, and salts thereof with pharmaceutically acceptable acids such as hydrochloric, hydrobromic, acetic and fumaric acids; and the preparation of the above steroids by reacting steroids of the general formula: <FORM:0954146/C2/2> wherein Z represents bromine or iodine or the group OR11 in which R11 represents an alkyl or aryl sulphonyl group, with the required substituted piperazine and, when required, converting the product into a salt with a pharmaceutically acceptable aid. Therapeutic compositions having an anti-inflammatory effect comprise steroid compounds of the first general formula above and in pharmaceutical carrier or diluent such as water.
