953,687. Pipe couplings. HEPWORTH IRON CO. Ltd. Nov. 1, 1962, No. 41296/62. Heading F29. A pipe coupling of the type comprising a synthetic plastic sleeve 1 with one half of its length fitting round the end 6 of one pipe and the other half fitting round the end 6 of another pipe has corrugations defining inwardly-facing annular recesses 3 at each end of the cylindrical wall 2 for sealing rings 4 of radial thickness exceeding the depth of the recesses and has thin radial projections 5 extending inwards in a plane perpendicular to the axis of the sleeve midway between its ends so that the end faces 7 of the pipes abut the opposite faces of the projections 5. The outer sides 8 of the recesses 3 have a greater interval diameter than the cylindrical portion 2 to give a lead-in for the pipe ends 6 and the radial length of the projections 5 does not exceed the thickness of the pipe walls so as not to obstruct the bore. The coupling is thus able to join pipes with their ends slightly displaced without impairing the effectiveness of the seals between the sleeve and pipes.
