Abstract
953,481. Moulding refractory bricks. GENERAL REFRACTORIES Ltd. Feb. 14, 1963 [March 20, 1962], No. 10555/62. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F4] A metal clad refractory brick comprises two L-shaped plates disposed at diagonally opposite edges of the brick and spot welded where they overlap two angle strips contained in recesses in the two parallel, remaining edges. A refractory block has recesses 6 containing metal strips 7 to which are welded L-shaped plates 1, longitudinal movement of the strips being prevented by the shoulders 8. In further embodiments the strip may be notched and the notched portions located in individual recesses or the notches may be bent to enter the block at the longitudinal reentrant corner of the recess. A mould box 13, Fig. 5, with plungers 14 and 15 is fitted with recess forming strips 16 and 17. When the strips are co-moulded with the brick one strip is placed at a lower corner of the mould, the correct amount of refractory material is applied and the other strip is finally pressed in position. The recess may be formed with a combustible material which is left in position after moulding and burned out during firing. The invention may be applied to bricks comprising two or more refractory blocks, Fig. 8, recesses being provided at diagonally opposite corners of the brick and spacers, suitably flanged to prevent movement (Fig. 9, not shown), being placed between the blocks. The blocks may be supported by extending the casing and providing suspension holes in the extensions or a hole may be formed through the complete brick.
