952,004. Aerosol compositions. COOPER, McDOUGALL & ROBERTSON Ltd. Jan. 25, 1963 [Feb. 15, 1962; July 31, 1962], Nos. 5855/62 and 29308/62. Heading FIR. A pressure-packed self-propelling water-inoil emulsion composition for the presentation of a material in a fine space-spray, contains butane in an amount greater than 15 % and less than 50 % by weight, water, as a first emulsifier a sorbitan or glycerol ester emulsifier, as a second separate and individual emulsifier an ethylene oxide condensate emulsifier, and an organic oil solvent which is immiscible with water and acts as a solvent for the ester. emulsifier and the material to be presented, the composition upon application providing a fine space-spray whose particles are so light in weight that they do not readily sink through the air. The first emulsifier may be a laurate or oleate, such as sorbitan mono-oleate: the second may be triethylene glycol or a substance containing an alkylene, alkylaryl or long-chain alkyl group. The solvent may be a hydrocarbon, e.g. kerosene, a chlorinated hydrocarbon, xylene, 2-ethoxyethanol or oleyl alcohol. Propylene or hexylene glycol may be included as a bactericide. The composition may include an insecticide, e.g. Malathion, gamma-benzene hexachloride or pyrethrin and a synergist, e.g. piperonyl butoxide.
