Abstract

1,263,860. Starch powder. BROWN & POLSON Ltd. 5 June, 1970 [6 June, 1969], No. 27414/70. Heading C3U. A dry powder blend consists of: (a) a mixture of starch and at least one other chemical, the starch constituting at least 50% of the weight of the mixture; and (b) from 0À1-1% by weight, based on the weight of the mixture, of an inert hydrophobic or lipophilic substance which is not appreciably volatile at room temperature and which has a boiling point of at least 150‹ C. The other chemical(s) may be present so as to improve the flowability of the starch. The hydrophobic or lipophilic substance may be an alkane, alkene, alkanol or fatty acid ester, e.g. kerosene, diesel or fuel oil, paraffin oil or a paraffin or other wax, polyoxypropylene polyoxyethylene glycol or polyoxyethylene sorbitan monolaurate. Examples are given of the use of various starch types, together with, as the other chemical(s), carboxymethyl cellulose, urea, borax, sodium carbonate, disodium hydrophosphate, kaolin, calcium hydroxide, polyvinyl alcohol and sodium chloride.
