Abstract
Vinyl esters of carboxylic acids, are prepared by transesterifying a vinyl ester of a saturated aliphatic carboxylic acid (1-4 C atoms) with the carboxylic acid in an anhydrous medium in the presence of a platinum, palladium or rhodium salt as a catalyst. Propionic, chloropropionic, lauric, stearic, crotonic, oleic, linoleic, adipic, sebacic, benzoic, sorbic and e -phthalimidocapioic acids are referred to, and examples describe the preparation of vinyl esters using catalysts which may be dissolved in the anhydrous medium or applied to a support such as active carbon. Double chlorides of the platinum metals with lithium or sodium chloride, and palladium or rhodium acetate are used in examples.ALSO:Salts of platinum, palladium or rhodium, for example, double chlorides with lithium or sodium chloride, and palladium or rhodium acetates, are supported upon active carbon and used as catalysts for the preparation of vinyl esters of carboxylic acids.
