Abstract

950,258. Welding by fusion. GES. FUR LINDE'S EISMASCHINEN A.G. Aug. 31, 1962 [Sept. 2, 1961], No. 33466/62. Heading B3R. A welding device for welding the peripheral surface of an aperture in a member, e.g. a plate 11, to the end of a hollow member, e.g. a tube 12, projecting partially into the aperture, comprises a holder 5 mounted for relative rotation with the work about the axis of the aperture and a welding head 6 axially adjustable in the holder 5 to adjust the distance of the electrode end of the head 6 from the axis of the aperture. The holder 5 carries a guide spindle 4 insertable into the tube 12 by a distance determined by a support 13 having a work-engagable ball 14 and adjustable axially and radially relative to the holder 5. The guide spindle 4 has spring- loaded centring projections 2 and is detachable for replacement by a spindle of different diameter. The holder 5 is rotated by a hand wheel 15 or by a power drive. The axes of the holder 5 and the spindle 4 are coplanar. In a modification, the head 6 is mounted to one side of and is adjustable axially and angularly about an axis perpendicular to the spindle 4.
