Abstract
950,206. Knitting machines. M PHILIP. March 8,1961, No. 8467/61. Heading D1C . A pattern wheel for a circular knitting machine has slots, containing inserts which control the needles to form a pattern, these slots being divided into groups and during each complete rotation of the needle cylinder or dial only the slots of one group are engaged by the needle butts, a gap being provided between two of the needles of a width suitable to change the group of wheel slots engaged in the next rotation of the needles. As shown, pattern wheel 8 rotates freely on an obliquely mounted shaft 9 and has the slots arranged obliquely on its edge. Inserts 13 placed in slots 12 determine the positions of the needles i.e. whether they will knit or tuck. Pattern wheels with 2, 3, 5 and 7 groups of slots are shown, e.g. 7 in Fig. 7, the slots of different groups being shown of different depths merely to distinguish between them.
