Abstract

949,966. Stuffing-box substitutes. AUTOMOTIVE PRODUCTS CO. Ltd. Nov. 4, 1960 [Dec. 30, 1959], No. 44289/59. Heading F2B. A rubber &c. seating boot 7 for a ball and socket joint comprises a lip 11 in sealing contact with the pin 10 and a metal washer 14 which is bonded to the boot and engages a shoulder 15 on the pin. The lip 11 is spaced from a shoulder 12 forming a support for a member 17 which may be bonded to the shoulder and bears against a fitting 16 secured to the pin 10. The open end 8 of the boot has a rim 9 which engages a groove in an adjacent part of the joint.
