947,304. Hydraulic shock absorbers. GIRLING Ltd. August 31, 1960 [Sept. 2, 1959], No. 29898/59. Heading F2S. A telescopic hydraulic damper has a body 19 of resilient cellular material the cells of which are not interconnected located in the recuperation chamber 18. The damper has an annular recuperation chamber 18 between inner and outer cylinders 10 and 13, and a ring 22 to support body 19 in the upper part of the chamber 18. The body 19, which accommodates piston rod volume changes in the damper so that it can be completely filled with liquid, is formed by wrapping a rectangular block of foamed or expanded rubber or plastic material round the inner cylinder 10 leaving a longitudinal passage 21 through the material (Fig. 2) for liquid to pass from end to end of the chamber.
