[Also in Divisions B2, D1 and F2] In a vibration isolating system for a machine such as a domestic washing machine, centrifuge, &c. the movable parts such as the tub 4, Fig. 5, and transmission system 20 are suspended from the fixed frame or casing 5 by flexible cables 44 running over pulleys 70, 71, 74, 76 attached to the fixed or movable parts and permitting the movable parts to swing freely with pendulous motion due to the swinging of the cables and with a rocking motion due to the cables running freely over the pulleys. Various examples are described in which the cable 44 is continuous or has its ends fixed as at 80 to brackets 68 on the wash tub or on the casing 5. Movement of the tub 4 may be damped by friction pads 86 attached by spring arms 87 on one member and engaging plates 84 attached to the other member. In a modification in which the wash tub, Fig. 1, is rigidly attached to the outer casing 5 by brackets 12 the inner spinning basket 2 and transmission drive 20 are carried by a U-frame 31 attached to the cables 44, the vertical arms 32, 33 of the frame extending upwards to a point above the centre of gravity of the moving system. In this example the cables 44 run over pulleys 34, 36 disposed at diagonally opposite corners at the top of the casing 5 and run downwards to further pairs of pulleys 38, 41 at the base of the casing 5 arranged to permit the cable to run diagonally across the base. Friction damping is provided by spring-loaded friction pad 53 engaging vertically disposed plates 50, 51 attached to the U-frame 31, the drive motor 22 and the counterbalance weight 27.
