Abstract
Catalysts consisting of or containing Na or Li on an anhydrous potassium compound which may be used for polymerizing propylene to 4 methylpentene 1 may be reactivated by treatment with hydrogen at elevated temperature. If desired the hydrogen may be diluted with inert constituents but preferably composes at least 25% of the gas mixture. Specified sources of hydrogen are platformer tail gas, steam cracker tail gas, catalytic cracker tail gas and tail gas derived from dehydrogenation of hydrocarbons. Regeneration may be effected at 50-400 DEG C. and 5-500 p.s.i.g. of H2. Specified anhydrous potassium compounds are carbonate, silicate, sulphate, hydroxide and halides. Hydrocarbons which may be polymerized by the use of such activated regenerated catalysts are ethylene, propylene, isobutene, styrene, butadiene and isoprene. Examples are given.
