945,496. Photographic reproduction processes. KODAK Ltd. May 16, 1960 [May 20, 1959], No. 17130/60. Heading G2C. A photographic reproduction process comprises exposing an unhardened gelatino-silver halide emulsion layer, developing it in a solution of a #-lower alkylamino ethanol (i.e. alkyl groups with 1-4 carbon atoms)in the presence of a tanning developing agent, which may be in the emulsion layer, and transferring in the presence of moisture at least a thin stratum of the shadow regions of the layer to a support, e.g. an absorbent support such as a lithographic plate having a hydrophilic surface. Non-tanning developing agents may also be present. Examples are given comprising (a) solution containing #-diethylaminoethanol, sodium bicarbonate, sodium ethylenediamine-tetracetate, water and a dye such as Direct Deep Black EA conc. C. F., Nigrosine or Rhodamine BI (b) solutions of glacial acid acid and #-diethylaminoethanol or #-dimethylamino ethanol, in which case the reception sheet may comprise a mixture of an intensifying agent, e.g. thiourea and a development suppressing agent, e.g. sodium formaldehyde bisulphite. (c) The emulsion comprises gelatinosilver bromiadide, #-diethylaminoethanol-sulphur diozide, 1-phenyl-4. 4-dimethyl-3-pyrazolidone and hydroquinone in which case the solution comprises water and #-diethylaminoethanol.
