Abstract
945,009. Railway vehicle undercarriages. AMSTED INDUSTRIES Inc. Aug. 9, 1960 [Sept. 30, 1959], No. 27614/60. Heading B7L. A friction shoe 20, Figs. 4 and 5, for snubbing the end of a bolster of a railway truck comprises a body portion 21 having a main friction wall 22, to engage a liner on a truck side frame column, and spaced inclined friction walls 30 engaging complementary surfaces 32, Fig. 10, formed in a pocket in the bolster 16, the walls 30 having wings 28 projecting therefrom for reception in recesses 40 formed in the pocket. The vertical sides of the shoe adjacent the wall 22 engage guide flanges 42 of the bolster, the flanges 42 being connected to flanges 41 bounding the recesses 40, with the interpositioning of cored openings 43. Instead of the guide flanges being provided on the bolster they may be provided on the shoe. In another embodiment described with reference to Figs. 8 and 9 (not shown) the wings 28 are joined at their lower ends by a horizontal flange thereby forming a U-shaped friction surface. The shoe pockets may be provided in the side frame columns instead of in the bolster ends.
