An adjustable joint for connecting two members comprises a ball-headed bolt 3 adapted to be attached to one of the members and a socket 6 adapted to be non-rotatably secured to the other member, the socket being formed with a seating 10 for the bolt head 5, a slot 11 for the passage of the bolt stem 4, and two external faces 12, 13 which are respectively normal and oblique to the axis of the socket and which intersect in a line 14 so arranged that it lies on the opposite side of the axis of the bolt from the end of the slot in either face when the bolt is caused to extend normally to that face, a nut 15 being threaded on the bolt stem for tightening towards either of the faces to clamp the joint in adjusted position. The face 13 is inclined at an angle of 45 degrees, and a second oblique face inclined at a different angle such as 30 degrees may be provided at the other side of the face 12 to give a further position of adjustment. A washer 19 may be inserted between the nut 15 and the socket 6, and may be non-rotatably mounted on the bolt. The bolt head 5 may be formed with a diametral hole or a groove on the opposite side from the stem to receive a pin extending across the socket parallel to the line 14 to prevent rotation of the bolt about its axis relative to the socket. The socket and nut are adapted to be attached to the members to be connected by the joint, which may be rods or tubes supporting a large umbrella, by means of screw threads or transverse pins. In a modification a separate nut is provided on the stem and the bolt is attached to the member by other means.
