Abstract
944,688. Fastening railway rails. LOCKSPIKE Ltd. Aug. 3, 1962, No. 30080/62. Addition to 861,473. Heading E1G. Retaining means for a rail clip as claimed in the parent Specification of which parts 7-9 are shown, Fig. 1, comprise a metal block 4 secured in a preformed, insulated recess 5 in a concrete sleeper by a bolt 14 screwed into a hardwood plug cast in the sleeper. The head 16 of the bolt is housed in a recess 12 in the block which crosses a horizontal passage 11 in which one limb 7 of the clip is inserted, limbs 8 and 9 bearing on the block 4 at 18 and the rail flange respectively. In modifications of this embodiment, the bolt has a threaded head which engages a threaded recess in the base of the block 4 or the block is formed with one long or two short shanks secured in recesses in the sleeper by epoxy resin. In a further embodiment, Fig. 9, a pair of hook bolts 25 are secured by epoxy resin 27 in apertures 26 in the sleeper and a bearing plate 23 with apertures 24 to accommodate the hooks rests on an insulating layer 22 in a recess in the sleeper. In the embodiment of Fig. 14 the retaining means includes a tubular member comprising two spaced aligned hoops 33 connected by a horizontal portion on which lies a bearing plate 36 secured to the sleeper by a bolt 38. In each embodiment, part of the retaining means abuts the rail flange to prevent lateral movement thereof.
