Abstract
1,169,715. Fastening railway rails. BRITISH RAILWAYS BOARD. 31 Oct., 1967 [16 Aug., 1966], No. 36547/66. Addition to 1042991. Heading E1G. In a rail fastening wherein a rail 1 is secured to a metal, concrete, or other cast sleeper by a forked plate spring 3 engaging the cross bar 5 of a reaction piece 4 as in the parent Specification, the reaction piece 4 comprises a simple loop, lateral location of the rail 1 being provided in the embodiment shown by an insulator 11-10 engaging a shoulder 9 in the sleeper. In alternative embodiments the rail is laterally located either, Figs. 4-6 (not shown), by the cross bar (16) of a second hoop embedded obliquely in the sleeper and/or possibly secured to the hoop 4, or, Figs. 7-8 (not shown), by a narrow groove (23) in the sleeper cooperating with a rib depending either from the rail foot itself or from a flanged insulator pad in which the rail seats.
