Abstract

943,080. Refrigerators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Oct. 18, 1962 [Nov. 13, 1961], No. 39423/62. Heading F4H. A refrigerator comprises a freezer compartment 11 and a storage compartment, the storage compartment having a door 14 which carries a hydrator 38 such that when the door is closed the hydrator closes the freezer compartment. As shown, the refrigerator is divided into upper and lower food storage compartments by a slidable drawer 52. The upper compartment includes freezer 11 which is formed by a C- shaped evaporator 64. An L-shaped door 14 hinged at 36 closes the upper compartment and carries a hydrator 38 pivoted at 44, such that when door 14 is closed the hydrator is closed by the horizontal portion 34 of the door and the hydrator closes the opening in the evaporator 11. The door part 34 carries ribs 76 which form air passages over the hydrator. The lower food storage compartment has a door 12 formed with shelves 16, 18 which are narrowest at the hinge end of the door, and shelves 20, 22 which are complementary to the door shelves 16, 18, and are pivoted so as to be able to swing out from the lower compartment. The height of shelves 20, 22 can be adjusted. The refrigerator is equipped with magnetic door seals 90, and a light switch is operated by opening the door 12. The space between inner liner 88 and outer shell 86 is filled with polyurethane foam insulation impregnated with monofluoro-trichloromethane.
