942,628. Unstacking; turning articles on endless conveyers. CHERRY-BURRELL CORPORATION. Jan. 31, 1962 [Feb. 1, 1961], No. 3625/62. Headings B8A and B8C. Apparatus for unstacking crates includes a cradle receiving the stack in upright condition and then pivoting to lay it on a conveyer which removes the crates as a row. A further faster conveyer may separate the crates. The stacked crates are advanced by chains 10 on to the platform 28 of the cradle 20 and depress a bar 46 to initiate pivoting. The cradle lays the stack horizontally on to the chains, stops 32 checking the advance of further stacks. A faster conveyer 56 separates the crates which are tilted back to their upright position by obstructions 80. The conveyers may have a sloping run to keep bottles, for example, in the crates while the latter are on their sides. Crates may be completely inverted by allowing them to run off the end of the conveyer 56 on to one below it.
