Abstract
941,570. Valves. McNAMEE INDUSTRIES PTY. Ltd. April 3, 1962 [April 5, 1961], No. 12684/62. Heading F2V. A gate valve 10 is actuated via a manually movable screwed spindle 15 by two pistons 17 acting on a bridge 16 carrying the spindle. Handle 18 rotatably but non-axially movably carried on the bridge is clamped by nut 24a to sleeve 24 screwing on the spindle. When the handle is rotated to start opening the valve, a ball 32 moves out of a spindle recess 15a into a hole in sleeve 24 and displaces a plunger 22 from the hole against spring 22a whereby a cable 23 moves an indicator 35 to the " manual " position and positions a valve 34 whereby any pressure fluid from a control valve connected at 36 by-passes the pistons. If the valve is opened hydraulically, the plunger and ball are in their respective hole and recess so that lever 35 indicates " automatic " and valve 34 directs fluid from the control valve to the larger undersides of pistons 17 to obtain the greatest effort for overcoming possible sticking. This may also be achieved by using the bridge guides 19 as additional hydraulic pistons. Spring 29 reduces shock particularly at closing.
