Abstract

968,553. Valves. A. G. WILD & CO. Ltd. Jan. 30, 1963 [Oct. 31, 1961], No. 38891/61. Heading F2V. A valve for controlling the supply of fluid to a mine roof support comprises a casing 13 with an inlet 14 and outlet 15, a valve seat 16, a valve 11 slidably mounted in the casing to and away from the seat, the valve being spring biased towards the open position and movable into a closed position by hydraulic pressure in the outlet when this pressure overcomes the spring pressure, and a member 21 which retains the valve in the closed position and which can be actuated manually to allow the valve to re-open. The member 21 consists of a spring-loaded cam which follows up the closing movement of the valve under increasing pressure at the outlet 15 and may be rotated by a lever 22 to permit the valve be opened again by its spring after the pressure in the roof support has been released. To vary the pressure required to close the valve, the spring may be changed or be arranged to abut an adjustable stop. The valve may be mounted in the same casing as a pressure relief valve operated by a cam on the same shaft as the cam 21 so that when the relief valve is closed the valve 11 is free to open. Specification 781,297 is referred to.
