Abstract
The invention comprises dimethyl-(1, 2, 2,-trichloro-2-nitro-ethyl) phosphate. It may be obtained by passing gaseous nitryl chloride into a cooled solution of dimethyl 2, 2-dichlorovinyl phosphate in an inert anhydrous solvent, e.g. diethyl ether, chloroform or carbon tetrachloride. The product may be recovered by subsequently washing the reaction mixture with water and removing the solvent in vacuo, the product being obtained in the form of an oil. Some 1, 2, 2-trichlorovinyl phosphate is also obtained as by-product. The nitryl chloride used may be obtained by the dropwise addition of chlorosulphonic acid to a cooled mixture of oleum and concentrated nitric acid. The product has insecticidal properties (see Division A5).ALSO:An insecticidal composition comprises dimethyl - (1,2,2 - trichloro - 2 - nitro - ethyl) phosphate (see Division C2) and a liquid or solid diluent or carrier. The composition may be in the form of an emulsion, suspension or dust and may be applied as an aerosol, spray or smoke. Wheat meal is specified as carrier material.
