Abstract

940,454. Magnetic recording methods. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 15, 1960 [Feb. 18, 1959], No. 5311/60. Heading G5R. Carrier-frequency signals,one amplitude modulatedto represent analogue measurements,are recorded in tracks M and T on a magnetic tape,the output from one track being used to demodulate the output from the other on playback to realise the analogue measurements. The same bridge circuit which is used normally to provide direct measurements in conjunction with an extensometer transducer (Fig. 1, not shown) is used to analyse the recording, the unmodulated carrier frequency synchronizing the demodulator. Preferably, the pair of heads 18, 18<SP>1</SP> are mounted on a drum 21,which is rotated to read the tracks appropriate to a stationary bight of tape 141 which is transported incrementally.
