Abstract

940,117. Cleaning tanks. R. BEECH. June 9, 1960 [June 9, 1959], No. 19654/59. Heading A4F. Residuals are reclaimed from a crude tar or creosote pitch fuel tank 2 by covering the residuals 3 with a layer 14 of a mixture of crude tar or creosote pitch and a solvent or a surface active agent and circulating the mixture through a strainer 6A, pipe 6, pump 7, and pipe 5 to an agitator 5A or a jet, until the residuals become wholly suspended in the mixture, which is then fed by a pipe 11 to a table 1 for re-use. The agitator device may comprise blades rotated by the flowing mixture or by an electric motor. The solvent or surface active agent is introduced into the circulating system through a pipe 10. The liquid in the tank 2 may be heated by an electric heater or other means during the cleaning operation.
