Abstract

938,745. Suction boxes for papermaking machines. J. P. MAUPAS. May 9, 1960 [May 9, 1959; April 11, 1960], No. 16394/60. Class 96. A suction box comprises superposed rows of rollers in tangential contact with endless sealing belts passing between. As shown, pulp is carried on a felt or wire 5 running over rollers 11 which engage rollers 12 running in staggered relation. The space between the two sets of rollers is enclosed at the side by a box having walls 15, 17. The whole is sealed by an endless belt 14 running on reduced portions of the rollers 11 and projecting to engage rebated portions 16 of the walls 15. Airtight seals are provided where the shafts 19 pass through the walls 17. Water may be fed to the shoulder 16 to form a seal.
