Abstract
937,941. Hinged butts for smallarms. DIRECTOR GENERAL OF FORSVARETS FABRIKSSTYRELSE. April 30, 1962 [May 25, 1961], No. 16508/62. Class 119. A hinged butt which is foldable along the outside of a smallarm is formed by or incorporates a tubular member 8 in which is a spring- urged plunger 9 provided with an operating arm 13, 14, the front end 20 of the plunger 9 having a wedge surface 21 forming (in the extended position of the butt) a small angle of 8 to 15 degrees with the longitudinal axis of the firearm and adapted to co-operate with a corresponding fixed wedge surface formed on the rear end 17 of the firing mechanism 1. The wedge surfaces are so arranged that a plane perpendicular to them and intersecting their foremost contact part 19 and parallel to the hinge axis 2 will be located behind the hinge axis 2. The wedge surfaces contact over a length about 2/ 5 and at least 1/3 of the distance of the foremost part 19 from the hinge axis 2. In the transport position, the butt is folded alongside the smallarm, the hook 14 of the operating arm 13 engaging with a fixed catch (not shown) on the smallarm. It is released therefrom by withdrawing the arm 13 which is held back against the spring 12 until the butt is in line with the smallarm and is then released to engage the wedge surfaces.
