Abstract

937,394. Vehicle headlamps. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. March 30, 1962 [April 4, 1961], No. 12302/62. Classes 39 (2), 75 (2) and 75 (4). A vehicle headlamp having a diameter not greater than 180 mm. comprises a first parabolic reflector 9 having a focal length less than 30 mm., a second parabolic reflector 8 having a focal length less than 75% of that of the first reflector and means for mounting helical filaments 12, 11 substantially at the foci of the reflectors with their longitudinal axes at rightangles to the axes of the reflectors. The axis of the second reflector may be tangential to the cylinder containing the second filament. A third parabolic reflector 10 having a focal length equal to that of the second reflector and provided with a third helical filament similarly mounted may be provided. The reflectors 9, 8 produce an anti-dazzle beam consisting of a concentrated and a dispersed part, and a main beam is produced by the third reflector and the second reflector. The filaments may be enclosed in separate envelopes which may be gasfilled or iodine lamps may be used. Alternatively, the headlamp may be constructed as a sealed beam lamp. The cover glass may have areas 21, 22 in front of the reflectors 8, 10 provided with vertical light spreading ribs. An additional reflector located above the reflectors 8, 10 with a filament of low rating may be provided for a parking light.
