A deodorizing device for use in heating a deodorant impregnated block comprises a casing 10, air inlet and outlet means 52, 62, in the casing, heating element 96 in the casing having actuating means 104 for activation of the heating element, and a unitary bracket 64 secured to an inner wall of the casing having extensions for supporting the actuating means and the heating element, and a finger member spaced on the heating element forming a pocket therewith for holding the deodorant impregnated block 122 within the heat radius of the heating element, the spacing between the heating element and the block being much less than the spacing between the other sides of the block and the casing in order to provide a narrow passage between the heating element and the block for increasing the velocity of air flow past the heated side of the block, the block being heated by convection currents passing about the block and by radiation penetrating inwardly of the block causing the deodorant fluid in the block to move towards the greater ambient temperature of the heated side as the fluid near the side vaporizes. As shown, the casing comprises a rear section 14 and a front section 16 provided with louvres 52 fitted together to provide an opening 62 in the top through which the block 122 is inserted and which is supported by the bracket 64 which also supports adjacent thereto a heating element 96 operated by the switch 107 such that a narrow passage is thereby formed between the side 126 of the block and the heating element to greatly increase the velocity of air flow from the inlet louvres to the outlet slot, a chimney effect being created which entrains the vaporized deodorant fluid and disperses it outwardly of the device.
